Should I use a Euronet ATM? If you believe the latest installment from a familiar YouTube critic, now on his 7th video about Euronet, our business is to “rip off” tourists. While we’re not fans of the old saying “all publicity is good publicity,” we take the opportunity to address misinformation, again.
A Longstanding Commitment to Cash Access
Euronet has operated in the Czech Republic since 1997, building an independent ATM network to provide convenient, reliable access to cash. To this day, our ATMs serve locals and visitors alike, wherever cash is needed. This is our business.
Transparency Is Not Optional
The latest video accuses Euronet of deceiving customers by hiding ATM charges and manipulating them toward certain choices. To be clear:
- Our ATMs offer choices for cash withdrawal, from small to larger amounts, and custom amounts
- Euronet fees are displayed on-screen
- When currency conversion is involved in the transaction, two cash withdrawal options are provided (a) exchange rate by Euronet, and (b) exchange rate by the cardholder’s bank.
- No transaction proceeds without the customer’s explicit consent
- Customers are free to cancel without cost and use another ATM
We trust that our ATM screen flows can be navigated in a straightforward manner.
Partnering with Communities; Creating Value for the Local Economy.
The video also targets a local business owner, for his choice of accepting payments in cash and offering access to cash to his customers through a Euronet ATM.
We have not encountered such an impolite way of addressing concerns towards a small business owner striving to satisfy his customers’ needs. We believe that every successful business owner has an open dialogue with his customers and improves his operations accordingly.
In reality:
- Euronet has partnered with hundreds of businesses across the Czech Republic over 28 years of operating in the country
- These partners lease space and receive rent—they don’t operate the ATMs
- We also partner with municipalities to restore access to cash in areas where banks have removed their ATMs.
If these are scams, they are remarkably civic-minded.
Operating in Ukraine: A Reality Check
Even in a country facing daily missile and drone attacks, this video accuses Euronet of chasing phantom tourists and at the same time, names us as suspect of the unavailability of a single ATM.
For context:
- Euronet is the only Independent ATM Deployer still active in Ukraine, with personnel on the ground
- Power outages, delays in service and cash replenishment, and regional instability are daily realities that affect ATM availability
Under such conditions, measuring ATM availability by how many coffees one can buy may not be the most thoughtful metric.
Final Word
We understand that sensationalism sells—but facts matter more, and so does context. We invite digital creators to help people make informed choices by factually presenting the ATM fees imposed by all Banks and other non-bank ATM Operators in the Czech Republic instead of singling out Euronet.
Euronet will continue doing what it has done for decades: providing access to cash where it’s needed, fairly and reliably.
