Euronet ATMs in Czechia

How many ATMs does Euronet operate in Prague and Czechia?. A known YouTuber, who has been critical of Euronet for some years believes…. too many.  This position obviously raises the question on how someone can arrive to such a conclusion and under which criteria they assess the “proper” number of ATMs.

Data driven conclusions are important

The total number of ATMs in Czechia were approx. 5.000 in 2025,  according to public sources (e.g. Czech National Bank Commentary on payment statistics – Czech National Bank).

Euronet ATMs in Czechia represent ~10% of all the ATMs in the country. In the area of Prague, Euronet currently has ~300 ATMs, while all other networks account for ~900 ATMs. A complete assessment indicates that the city’s ATM distribution is balanced. Even the Prague 1 district hosts hundreds of ATMs from a wide range of providers, including major Czech banks and international operators.

In the cited video, one referenced map presents Euronet as virtually the sole operator of ATMs in Prague. No reference is given to the significant number of non- Euronet ATMs. Closer inspection reveals that the map selectively displays only certain ATM providers, omitting the majority of bank-operated machines. The presented map is absolutely wrong and misleading. In another example, a table provided with breakdown of ATMs at the main train station, airport, Prague 1 etc, has significant deviations from the real data. Such data is already available from official sources such as the bank websites and/or bank association etc. It would therefore be appropriate to revise the relevant sections of the video so that its viewers receive objective and factually accurate information.

What is the appropriate number of ATMs?

The decision on where and how many ATMs Euronet installs and operates is based on demand criteria. Therefore, the statement “too many” is a subjective interpretation of a third party, who cannot accurately assess the demand for cash. Any claim to the contrary should be supported by data. Similarly, without understanding how this service works, it is impossible to objectively assess the complexity of operating a secure, technologically complex, and financially costly ATM network.

Cash accessibility is an essential service, and not to be downplayed as in some media channels. Cashless payments are indeed rising and represent an important payment instrument preferred by an increasing number of consumers.  Yet, cash is and will be an essential alternative. Consumers want choices, and companies like Euronet offer such choices.
